The Position

The Gifts from the Heart (GFTH) Program is a DCFAS internal holiday gift-giving campaign benefiting over 3,000 foster children, disabled adults and the elderly in Sacramento County served by Child Protective Services (CPs) and Senior and Adult Services Divisions (SAS). All gift recipients are referred by their SAS or CPS social workers.

Volunteer drivers to pick up gift donations or deliver holiday gifts to seniors:

• May use either 16' box truck or county cargo van to deliver gifts to county buildings; pick up donations from sponsors. Those who are not comfortable driving big truck or cargo van may use county cars to deliver gifts to senior client homes.

One day Santa Shop Volunteer:

• Organize thousands of undesignated toys for the "Santa Shop" on the second Saturday of December. Volunteer needs to be able to be physically able to reach, bend, lift (up to 15 lbs.), and stand for long periods of time. Tasks are to unwrap, sort and put toys on shelves. 

Location

Florin Perkins & Elder Creek Rd. Volunteers will be working in a warehouse during the first three weeks in December each year. Warehouse area could be cold but the inside office is heated. 

Days/Hours

First three weeks in December from Monday to Friday during 8a.m. to 4p.m. Scheduling is flexible within these hours but must be a four-hour block each shift.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older and able to lift 30 lbs. or more with no physical limitation to bend or reach. All volunteers must pass a criminal background screening. Drivers must have auto insurance, valid driver's license and good driving record. Candidates should be willing to work as part of a team with community partner agencies, department staff, social workers, and other volunteers
