Serving a Subpoena for Appearance of Child Protective Services (CPS) Staff


These instructions only apply to current employees of CPS, a subdivision of the Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services. Subpoenas for former CPS employees will not be accepted. To serve a subpoena on a current CPS employee, please follow the process outlined below.

 

Subpoenas for Criminal and Dependency matters

Subpoenas for Criminal and Dependency matters can be served in one of the following methods:

  1. Email at DCFASrecords@saccounty.gov (preferred and fastest method);
  2. Mail to DCFAS Records, 925 Del Paso Blvd, Ste. 500, Sacramento, Ca. 95815; or,
  3. In-person at 925 Del Paso Blvd, Ste. 500, Sacramento, Ca. 95815.

Business Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (excluding County holidays)

These subpoenas do not require payment.

 

Subpoenas for Civil, Domestic Violence, or Family Law matters

Subpoenas for Civil, Domestic Violence, or Family Law matters require a witness testimony bond payment of $275. This fee can be paid via money order or cashier's check. If the subpoena is being served by an attorney's office, payment can be made via company check. Subpoenas, with payment included (made payable to DCFAS – QMAS) can be served in one of the following methods:

1.       In-person at 925 Del Paso Blvd, Ste. 500, Sacramento, Ca. 95815

Business Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (excluding County holidays)

2.       Mail to DCFAS Records, 925 Del Paso Blvd, Ste. 500, Sacramento, Ca. 95815

 

Guidelines for Service

  • Please include:
    • Full name of the currently employed CPS staff;
    • Case name and number;
    • Date, time, and location for appearance;
    • Contact information of the serving party; and,
  • Subpoenas for former CPS employees will not be accepted.
