Sacramento County is working to make the Sacramento region livable and accessible for County residents throughout their life. Sacramento County joined the AARP Age-Friendly Network of States and Communities in 2021. Once enrolled in the network, a community begins a multi-year cycle consisting of a community assessment, action plan, and progress reports. Sacramento County conducted the community assessment in 2022 and will complete a local age and disability-friendly action plan by the end of 2024. On February 25, 2025, the Board of Supervisors approved Sacramento County’s Local Age and Disability Friendly Action Plan (LADAP), launching a community-driven effort to advance accessibility, inclusion, and equity for older adults and individuals with disabilities.

On March 17, 2025, an uplifting launch event was hosted at Sacramento State, where over 300 residents and 50 resource agencies came together to celebrate the approval and completion of the Action Plan.
On April 24, the Action Committee kicked off its first meeting to unite local leaders, advocates, and service providers in beginning implementation of the LADAP. To support implementation, workgroups were established to further align the LADAP with the California Master Plan for Aging. Sacramento is taking one meaningful step at a time toward becoming a more age and disability-friendly community.
